Piano and bandoneon. This is Closer, a project with Daniele di Bonaventura born a number of years ago. Our music is atmospheric and lyrical, without ever succumbing to the banal. We approach these concerts without preconception, with the goal of bringing not our own subjectivity, but the universal sentiment to the stage.

Just as in the duo with Luca Aquino, this project gives me the opportunity to do one of my favorite things in the world: sit at the piano and play marvellous songs. In this case, songs born from tango, blues, minimalism. Music from the Mediterranean, from Africa and beyond.

Daniele and I are different in many ways. We come from different generations, we have different musical backgrounds, but what brings us together is our restless nature, a drive to work outside the box and a taste for risk and the unpredictable.

In addition to his skills on piano and bandoneon, Daniele di Bonaventura is an arranger and composer. Although he was trained as a classical musician, he has always had a strong interest in improvised music, and became the first bandoneon player after Dino Saluzzi to record for ECM. He has experience throughout a vast area of musical languages, from classical to contemporary music, jazz to tango, ethnic to world music, occasionally working in theatre, cinema and dance.
